According to the World Bank, the generation of municipal solid waste is expected to reach 3.4 billion tons annually by 2050 (Nanda and Berruti, 2021), of which organic waste accounts for the major part, at approximately 46% (Yang et al., 2015).
An urge to find renewable substances for sustainable development results in a strategy to valorize organic solid waste using solid state fermentation (SSF) and to manage the issue of solid wastes in a green approach.
